ABOUT us
Nicholas Chizzoni
Director & Psychologist (MAPS)
AHPRA No: PSY0002178238
A Queensland boy originally hailing from the Sunshine Coast, Nick spent close to 4 years working in rural Australia in the historic mining town Broken Hill in outback NSW. Nick quickly fell in love with the laidback lifestyle, generosity of the people and the ability to make a genuine difference by offering services to people who might not otherwise receive psychological intervention. He maintains an active interest in servicing rural and remote communities and believes where you live should not be a barrier to receiving high quality support.
Nick has 6 years of clinical experience working mostly with children and adolescents in both non- government and government settings including: Headspace, Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) and The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). Nick feels privileged to have been able to service some of the most remote towns and regions of NSW during his time with the RFDS.
Clinically, Nick has an interest in providing treatment to children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and those who have experienced complex trauma. He is trained in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule 2nd Edition (ADOS-2) which is a diagnostic screening tool for Autism. Nick can also administer other psychometric assessments to screen for cognitive impairments and learning disabilities. Nick’s practice framework is informed by attachment theory and trauma neurobiology and integrates evidenced based treatment modalities including cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) delivered in a fun child friendly manner. He also recognises the importance of involving the system around the child and young person during the therapeutic process.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys getting active and is an avid swimmer and enjoys long distance endurance events. He also enjoys reading and upskilling to become a better psychologist than he was yesterday and is currently balancing the operation of Far North Kids while undertaking his clinical masters.
